EndurAlloy: case studies

Testimonials on the Excellent Value of Boronized Steel

Case Study One: Problem Well Solved

A customer in SE Saskatchewan, Canada shared this story of how he saved $30,000 in one year:

Situation: From 1984 to 1998 the well required 24 service rig jobs. Sixteen of the 24 were tubing leaks. The other 8 were parted rods due to wear. That works out to a tubing leak every 10.5 months and all in total rig was on location every 7 months. The client mapped out the locations of the tubing leaks and found that they all occurred in two areas. The majority of the leaks were in the 20 joints above the Pump Seating Nipple, joints 129 to 110, with the remainder of the leaks between joints 80 and 87.

Action: Boronized tubing was run in this well as follows: Joints 1-79 - regular tubing, Joints 80-87 - boronized tubing, Joints 88-109 - regular tubing, Joints 110-129 - boronized tubing. The client also ran 60 rods with three-per-rod, molded-on, wide vane, tapered centralizers above the pump to further reduce rod and tubing wear.

Result: The client ran the boronized tubing/ centralized rod combo and to date the well has run 17 months with no problems and is still running. The boronized tubing has saved them 1-2 rig jobs over the past 17 months. It has probably saved $30,000 due to decreased failures.
